It was Labor Day weekend and Chantel and Chelsey were getting ready to go see their dad for the first time since moving. They had been adjusting to Georgia quite well. Chantel found a nice three bedroom condo in Hiram and they both loved it. Chelsey loved her new school and Chantel was scheduled to start at Clark in January for the spring semester. Instead of rushing, she decided to wait to make sure her and Chels had a smooth transition from Charlotte and so far, it had been good.

“Chellllssss… come onnn!!”

“The one time you beat me getting dressed, you wanna come for me,” Chels entered the living room rolling her eyes.

“Keep playin’ wit me lil girl,” Chantel grabbed her phone, purse, and keys and then headed towards the door.

“I’ll be glad when you get you a boyfriend to fuss at,” Chelsey mumbled, but she heard every word, making Chantel think. She had thought about searching through old phone bills to find Rocco’s number, but she always stopped herself before doing it. There had been several guys who tried to hit on her, but Chantel always blew them off. As she made her way to the car, Chelsey’s words kept ringing in her head, and she decided to do something about it.

“You know what… I’m gonna go out on a date with the next guy who asks me out,” Chantel disclosed as she pulled onto the highway.

“I don’t believe you… you should just call Rocco. I know you want to.”

“Ima prove yo lil ass wrong. Just wait and see.”

“If you say so,” Chelsey put her headphones in and tuned into her phone.

The drive to the prison was two and a half hours, but it flew by because of the music she was listening to. Chantel had a playlist together of the different songs that Rocco listened to during the week that they were together. If it wouldn’t have been for him, she would not have any earthly idea who Rod Wave was, but his song called Popular Loner went hard. She parked and they got out, going through the tedious process of checking in. Charles had been locked up for the past five years, and he didn’t want them to visit. Chelsey never got the chance to visit, but Chantel had been about five times. Their mom made it her business to go at least twice a month. He had been sentenced to twenty years, but Chantel prayed daily that he would be released soon.

Once they were finally inside, Chantel made her way into the visitation room and sat at one of the tables near the back. She didn’t tell their dad that they were coming, but she knew that he would be happy to see them. If it had not been for FaceTime calls, all of them would have gone crazy. About ten minutes later, their dad walked out and both of them got up and hugged him. Chantel hated to end the embrace, but she knew the rules in prison; and even though Charles had pull, she didn’t want to get him into any trouble.
